RCIA - RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
Those who have enrolled in the RCIA process are now in the Catechumenate Period. This is an extended period during which the catechumens/candidates are given suitable pastoral formation and guidance, aimed at training them in the Christian life. In this way the dispositions manifested at their acceptance into the catechumenate are brought to maturity. Since it is the whole parish who is responsible for initiating new members, please continue to pray daily for those who are on this journey.
SMALL FAITH COMMUNITIES
A Small Faith Community is a group of 8-12 individuals who gather weekly in a participant’s home to share their faith with one another. They journey together to try to better understand and live Gospel lives in our increasingly secularized world. They pray together, discuss faith, encourage and care for each other. The early Christians lived in community–the Small Faith Community imitates their commitment to each other and to Christ. If you missed the last sign-ups and would like to join a SFC please call Kathy Tribble at 502-0890.
LITURGY CORNER (Feb, 4, 5, 2006)
UNDERSTANDING THE SACRAMENTS (CONT.)
Sacraments at the Service of Communion
Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist are sacraments of Christian initiation. They ground the common vocation of all Christ’s disciples, a vocation to holiness and the mission of evangelizing the world. They confer the graces needed for the life according to the Spirit during this life as pilgrims on the march towards the homeland. Two other sacraments, Holy Orders and Matrimony, are directed towards the salvation of others; if they contribute as well to personal salvation, it is through service to others that they do so. They confer a particular mission in the Church and serve to build up the People of God. Through these sacraments those already consecrated by Baptism and Confirmation for the common priesthood of all the faithful can receive particular consecrations. Those who receive the sacrament of Holy Orders are consecrated in Christ’s name “to feed the Church by the word and grace of God.” On their part, “Christian spouses are fortified and, as it were, consecrated for the duties and dignity of their state by a special sacrament.”
